Parents often ask me, “What can I do to help my daughter with her depression?” U.S. News & World Report has succinctly listed ways to recognize depression in your teen as well as things you can do. I would also add to the list:
- Don’t take it personally. Your relationship with your teen may be very close or tumultuous; either way, the depression isn’t your fault.
- Talk to someone. While it’s a great idea to take your teen to a counselor, consider getting some therapy for yourself. This will help you to process your own feelings and situation so that you can better handle your teen’s emotions and situation.
