Every age and stage of kids bring both joys and challenges to parents. No need to debate which age is most difficult to parent- they are all challenging, just in different ways. It is more common, however, to see more support for parents of young children in the form of books, magazines, articles, podcasts, and “play groups.” This recent article from NPR about “moms of middle schoolers” provides some really good food for thought. It can be easy to internalize your child’s choices and even question your own parenting choices; the anxiety can be overwhelming.
You are not alone! This is a common issue that parents everywhere deal with, even if it is not talked about (how often is anxiety talked about, anyway?). Truly, it takes a village to raise a child.
