I have to admit that I was first a little skeptical about cats as therapeutic animals. Certainly research has shown that animals can be a calming presence for those with mental and physical diagnoses. However, I have never thought of a cat to be a certified therapeutic animal simply because most of the cats I have known like to do things on their terms, not others’. Dogs are forgiving and will do anything for love, but cats…simply put, can be snobs. Some cats seem like they sit around and silently judge people.
But, it is true that some cats are more social. Read this article to learn about the 5 ways cats can help with anxiety and depression in kids (and adults, too). (Note: I would not recommend #2 as a solution to teach children responsibility. You know what typically happens…)
