Educating the Unofficial Therapists: salon employees learn about domestic violence

Do you speak freely to your hair stylist? The person giving you a manicure? I’m always so intrigued by the stories I hear around me when I’m getting my hair cut. Salon customers seem to speak so freely to their stylist, with the stylist usually giving minimal feedback (“Um hmm, ” “Wow,” “That’s crazy!”). We all want someone to listen to us.

As of yesterday, 01/01/17, the state of Illinois will require its salon professionals to participate in training that will teach them how to recognize domestic violence in their clients. They will not be required to report, but at least they will be able to recognize the signs and encourage their clients to seek help. Great job, Illinois!
